Opening statement
This is the part of the privacy policy where I lay out some of my personal feelings on this issue, and how this has affected the site’s set up. This isn’t legally binding, that bit comes below.
By the way, if you’re concerned about privacy (perhaps you should be) Duckduckgo, my search engine of choice, has some privacy tips.
In the nicest possible way, I am not interested in your browsing habits, nor your purchasing habits, or listening or viewing habits. I have no interest in your habits, period.
I don’t like being tracked or spammed or marketed to. So, since I feel this way, I don’t see why I should expect you to be happy if I was to spam or market you.
That said, if you register for or subscribe to the site, this will require some of your information: email address, name, username, and so on. None of this will be sold on or used for any purposes other than those stated or required for the given function on the site.
I don’t use an analytics plugin or a tracker. I won’t sell your information. I’ve done my best to limit the number of plugins on this site that will use your personal data. (I do use the Jetpack plugin for security and other features – I’ve turned off its stats feature. The contact form needs to process the name and email address you provide, along with your message, for obvious reasons.) The only thing I’ll try to sell to you, ever, will either be access to The Boy with Nails for Eyes, stuff related to that, or other of my works. Nothing else.
You are not the product.
Who we are
Our website address is: https://theboywithnailsforeyes.com.
Comments
As of this writing, this site is not set up for visitors to leave comments.
Should this be enabled in the future, when visitors leave comments, the site will collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select ‘Remember Me’, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
Embedded content from other websites
This site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Examples include Bandcamp, YouTube and/or Vimeo. Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
This site makes use of various plugins. Some of these will log certain data about you, such as your IP, for security purposes.
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
Visitor comments, if any, may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
Purchases through this website are handled using a number of payment services, such as Woocommerce and Stripe. All payment information is stored on the platforms of these services, not on this website.
How long we retain your data
For users that register on our website, we store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except their username, which cannot be changed). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.
As noted above, this site isn’t set up for comments. If that changes in the future, and if you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata will be retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
If you wish to do this, use the contact from on the front page of this website to make the request. Any requests for deletion or data will be fully honoured as soon as possible.
